Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Thursday directed officials to prepare advance Kharif Action Plan and release waters immediately from available projects.

He held a video conference at the Secretariat here and instructed the officials to introduce the previous year’s tail to head policy which was successful in releasing waters from the projects.

Harish directed the officials to take measures immediately to release waters for Kharif including 40,000 acres ayacut from Singur, 20,000 acres ayacut from Ghanapur, 50,000 acres ayact from Kadem, 7,000 acres ayacut from Nilvai, 60,000 acres ayacut from Mathadi Vagu, 21,000 acres ayacut from Komaram Bheem and 6,000 acres ayacut from Golla Vagu and Nalla Vagu projects.

A video conference of collectors would be conducted next week on the Kharif plan, he said. Harish asked the officials to coordinate for speedy completion of the related works of repairs. “Urgent steps are necessary as there are frequent complaints from MLAs on leakages in the distributaries, canals and others to strengthen the projects,” he said. He also asked the officials to make field level visits to find bottlenecks or leakages and take necessary steps.

The Minister directed the officials to ensure that replacement and rehabilitation colonies are developed as village panchayats with all facilities. As rains are expected any time, the village level officials and staff remain at the workplace and monitor the related issues. Awareness camps for farmers will be conducted for crops falling under SRSP, Nagarjuna Sagar AMRP and others.
