Hyderabad: The State government is contemplating to bring new parking policy aimed to provide clear carriage way to the motorists in the cities and towns. The policy would provide some relaxation in building permissions if the house owners, who provide space for parking facility at their building.

The Municipal Administration Minister K T Rama Rao on Thursday had a meeting with the department officials at Pragathi Bhavan in Begumpet. Stating that the people had been facing problems because of the parking problems and bad roads, the Minister said efforts were being made to overcome this problem.

The government had already organised meeting with regard to new parking policy with the Cyberabad, Hyderabad and Rachakonda police commissionerates and the officials of Municipal Administration Department. The plans are aimed at decreasing the traffic congestion and saving the carriage way for free movement of the vehicles.

He said that the parking policy would help take the city on development path in a planned manner. The government had been trying to have multi-level parking facilities and also at open spaces, he said.

Rama Rao said house owners, who had adequate space and were willing to accommodate vehicles for parking, would be given incentives. They would be given relaxations during the issue of building permissions. He directed the officials to demolish the buildings which had been built on open spaces specified for parking. He wanted the officials to take it as a special drive.

The Minister wanted the Metro Rail authorities to have enough parking facilities like multi-level parking and skywalks so that there would be no traffic problem. The city presently has less number of foot-over bridges and there is a need for increasing the number. He asked the officials to work in coordination with the law and order and traffic police in this regard.
