Hyderabad: Opining that extending support to the NDA’s Presidential candidate RamnathKovind, who opposed reservations to the Minorities, by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was an injustice to Muslims, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC)chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy alleged that RamnathKovindhad opposed Ranganath Mishra report, which proposed 10 percent reservations to Muslims.

Speaking to the media here on Friday along with former Union Minister S Jaipal Reddy, former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar, Mallu Ravi and others, Uttam faulted the Chief Minister for extending support to RamnathKovind. He exhorted the Telangana MPs to cast their vote as per their conscience.

Opining that the Presidential election was not a competition between two people, Jaipal Reddy said former Speaker of Lok Sabha Meira Kumar was a honest person and a spirit of Constitution, whereas RamnathKovindwas an underground person. “I didn’t see him though he was a Rajya Sabha member for two terms. Kovind has learnt political lessons in RSS school. It is dangerous to the nation as such a person sits in the President’s post,” he wondered.

Jaipal Reddy said Meira Kumar was not only the daughter of former Deputy Prime Minister BabuJagjeevan Ram but also a talented person. He charged the Chief Minister with entering into a dark deal with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Chandrashekar Rao extended support to the Prime Minister much before announcing the name of Presidential candidate by the NDA, he said and asked the former on what ground he had extended support to NDA’s candidate.

SHABBIR’S TIRADE

Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir criticised Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao for blindly supporting the NDA candidate Ramnath Kovind as the NDA and the BJP had all along been anti-Telangana, anti-Dalit, anti-farmer and anti-pork. Addressing the media at the CLP office on Friday, Shabbir Ali said the BJP suddenly opted for a Dalit candidate for Presidency just for political gains.

He said time had come to the TRS to express its gratitude to the UPA for giving Telangana and redeem its commitment to promoting Dalits in public life by supporting Presidential candidature of Meira Kumar, who was chosen by 17 constituents of the UPA.

“I appeal to the Chief Minister to see through the political game of Prime Minister Modi and the BJP and defeat the designs of the Hindu zealots by withdrawing support to the NDA, which was all out to gain control of the coveted office of the President of India, which would smoothen their path to de-secularise India,” he said.
