Hyderabad: Even after more than a day, the efforts are underway to save Veena, the 18-month-old girl, who accidentally slipped into an open bore well in the neighbouring Vikarabad district.

The NDRF, fire and bore well expert teams have been trying relentlessly by using advanced technology to get her out safely. But their attempts are not yielding any results. Robot hands also failed to rescue the girl.

The child accidentally fell into the 40-60ft deep bore well at an agricultural field at Ekkareddyguda village in Vikarabad district when she was playing with her elder sister at around 7.15 pm on Thursday.

The girl's sibling informed family members who rushed to the spot and also alerted the police. Since then, efforts have been made to pull out the toddler from the bore well.

A parallel pit was dug, but the area is too rocky, a police official said on Friday. "Efforts are on to save the girl...oxygen is being supplied into the bore well," Chevella police station's sub-inspector N Sridhar said. An ambulance is also kept ready along with a team of doctors.

The rescue team is pumping oxygen into the well as the officers confirmed that the girl is still alive. The CCTV team confirmed after watching the footage that her hands are moving.

As the regular efforts failed to bring the baby up, a parallel pit is being dug. But it is getting tough as the area is rocky.

Transport Minister P Mahender Reddy, Chevella MP Visweswara Reddy, former Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy and Police Commissioner of Cyberabad Sandip Sandilya, District Collector Raghunandan Rao, along with several top officials, are camping at the site.

We thought the baby might have stuck at 40 feet. But she was not even sighted at 70 and 90 feet, said Visweswara Reddy. “The ONGC team is arriving and we also mobilised advance cameras. We use ‘balloon technology’ to rescue her,” said the MP.

Meanwhile, people of the two Telugu States are praying for safety of Veena.
