Karimnagar: The Karimnagar city that got selected under the Centre’s Smart City Mission recently is set for another bonanza with the proposed Satavahana Urban Development Authority (SUDA) is just a pen stroke away.

It appears like that Karimnagar that lost all the sheen following the reorganisation of the districts is slowly getting back on track with a slew of development projects in the pipeline which will give much needed boost to the real estate sector. It may be noted here that of late real estate sector in Karimnagar took a nosedive, especially after the formation of smaller
districts.

Recently, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who outlined the steps to be taken in pursuance of making Karimnagar gateway city, has announced Rs 25 crore for the Manair Riverfront project, besides directing the officials to prepare proposals for constituting the SUDA.

Against this backdrop, the district administration prepared a proposal and sent it to the Ministry of Urban Development. According to sources, the proposal was approved by the Ministry and was forwarded to the Chief
Minister’s Office.

As per the proposal, SUDA will include 71 villages spread across 500 square kilometres in its local planning area. The estimated population of the proposed urban authority is around 4.89 lakh. Majority of the villages included in the SUDA periphery were located along the highways leading to Hyderabad, Jagtial and Peddapally.

Speaking to The Hans India, District Collector Sarfaraj Ahmad said: “The urban development authority regulates planned growth, besides looking into the future development of the townships and protecting heritage structures in its peripheral area. We are waiting for the government’s green signal and it’s a matter of time before it all starts to fall in place.”

Karimnagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner A Shashanka said: “The administration also has plans to expand corporation area from the current 23.5 square kilometres to 60 km. In addition to the 2009 plan that envisages inclusion of 10 villages, we have plans to bring more villages in the ambit of the corporation.”
