Hyderabad: Overflowing sewerage water in various parts of the city is posing grave health hazards to the residents, especially the Basti dwellers.

The residents of BS Maktha Basti near Somajiguda complain that the situation has been same for a very long time. They allege that despite repeated complaints the area MLA and other Corporators have turned a blind eye to the situation. The overflowing sewerage is also contaminating the drinking water, the residents protest.

As the drainage water is stagnant on the roads, pedestrians find it difficult to walk fearing water borne diseases. Durga, a 10th standard student living in the basti said, “Overflowing water gets spilled on me while I walk through the stinking and muddy roads.

My uniform gets spoiled and feet start itching,” she said. Anand Rao, a local resident of the area said that a young girl lost her life after being affected by Dengue.

Local residents further told The Hans India that despite drawing the attention of the local MLA Chintala Ramchandra Reddy, the Corporators and civic authorities, the situation continues to cause problems to the residents.
