Hyderabad: Roads and Buildings Minister T Nageswara Rao expressed displeasure over the delay in the works on six State highways which were handed over to National Highway Authority of India and asked the officials to speed up the works.

The Minister who reviewed the progress of the works on Thursday expressed his unhappiness for delay. The Minister found fault with the concerned district Collectors and the NHAI officials for not having proper understanding of the new Land Acquisition Act.

He was angry over the consultants for showing negligence in the works and warned them that from now on he would not tolerate any delay.

The Union Surface Transport Ministry had passed orders giving the 624 km length six State highways to the NHAI. These roads include Sangareddy-Nanded-Akola (140km), Jagityala-Karimnagar-Warangal (130), Kodada-Khammam (40), Suryapet-Khammam-Ashwaraopet (177), Manchirial-Chandrapur (90) and Hyderabad-Manneguda (47km).

The Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari had given sanctions for works to the tune of Rs 8,000 Crore in five routes. Estimated allocations were Sangareddy-Nanded-Akola (Rs 2,300 Crore), Jagityal-Karimnagar-Warangal (2,500 Crore), Kodada-Khammam (Rs 700 Crore), Suryapet-Khammam (Rs 1,000 Crore) and Manchirial-Chandrapur (Rs 1,500 crore).

The Minister was unhappy that even after seven months time, the consultants failed to finalise the alignment and estimates. He said that the officials would face stern action if there was any further delay.
