Hyderabad: TRS MLA Srinivas Goud has condemned Congress party for opposing Goods & Services Tax (GST).

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, TRS MLA Srinivas Goud said it was the Congress party which tried to introduce GST during its regime. However, it could not implement the new tax during its 10-year rule from 2004-2014. He said that the then Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has made several efforts to bring in the GST. He said it was strange that now the same Congress party is opposing the GST.

Srinivas Goud said Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has been supporting the GST not for political reasons, but to strengthen the State's exchequer. He claimed that the GST would not hurt the economic interest of Telangana State. He hoped that the Centre would consider TS Government's request for reduction in GST for handlooms and other sectors.
