Kothagudem: District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Project Director P Jagath Kumar Reddy here on Saturday said to target under Haritha Haram programme is to plant 1.6 crore saplings in the District.

Speaking to The Hans India he said that on account of the Haritha Haram programme, the departments have increased the number of saplings to 1.8 crore in 85 nurseries in the district and added that the flagship programme of the government will start this month.

As per the target, to plant 1.6crore saplings in the district, necessary steps have been taken and saplings were grown in the nurseries along with identifying places for planting them, he said. The Forest, ITC Paper Boards, Singareni and Horticulture departments will plant 80per cent of the saplings in the identified areas and 20 per cent will be done by other departments, he said.

Three crore saplings were planted in Khammam district alone last year under the Haritha Haram programme, he said. Awareness programmes will be conducted in all villages, he added.

Project Director said planting a sapling and its protection is the responsibility of everyone. He also said that all the officers should participate in the programme to make it a grand success.
