Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) had decided to fill potholes scientifically rather than just dump the bituminous (BT) mix into the potholes. The GHMC will cut the pothole evenly in square shape and then fill them using BT, BT Emulsion and Shellmac cold mix.
According to GHMC official, it had been noticed that the ground level staff had been dumping BT mix in the potholes directly which is not sustainable. The civic body had now decided to motivate the ground level staff by conducting orientation classes regarding the scientific methods on how to fill potholes at zonal level in order to improve the quality of city roads.
A senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the civic body had noticed that there are several irregularities involved in pothole filling. He said in order to curb the irregularities the GHMC had now decided to conduct orientation classes with the ground level. He said the civic body had asked the ground level staff to fill the potholes scientifically under the supervision of engineers.
He said rather than dumping BT mix into the pothole, now GHMC asked the workers to make it even by cutting the road around potholes in a square shape and then use BT, BT Emulsion and Shellmac cold mix depending on the requirement.
The GHMC official further said that during heavy downpour the civic body had asked the officials to use Shellmac cold mix to fill the potholes as it can strengthen it in minutes. He said even though it is six times expensive than normal BT mix, it is highly recommended in monsoons. He also said the GHMC had asked the officials to fill the potholes immediately after the identification and in case of failure stringent action will be initiated.
