​Hyderabad: The government has decided to hike the salaries of contract lecturers by 50 per cent and bring them on a par with regular lecturers. The government on Wednesday issued orders in this regard.

Lecturers in Polytechnics in the State will get Rs 40,270 a month as against the present salary of Rs 28,500 with effect from the current academic year.

The additional financial burden on the government on account of the hike in salaries is Rs 5.11 crore.The Commissioner of Technical Education stated that contract lecturers had represented to the government that they had been performing official duties on a par with regular teaching staff and requested for sanction of minimum pay scale

As many as 3,000 lecturers are working in the government polytechnic, junior and in degree colleges of the State on contract basis. Some of them have been working for more than 15 years.
