Hyderabad: Four persons were arrested on charges of selling inferior and spurious seeds and cheating farmers. While the city police arrested three persons, the Rachakonda police arrested one other accused. The arrested were identified as Amith Kumar Chandrakanth, Hardik Patel, Vinay R Shah and M V Siva Reddy.

According to the police, Amith and two others had been packing and branding inferior and spurious seeds of various crops at a house in Gandhinagar area and selling them under the brand Kavya Seeds.

The fraudsters had not taken any license from the authorities concerned for running the business, police said adding that the kingpin of the gang, Bharath Patel was still at large.

Meanwhile, Hayathnagar police of the Rachakonda police Commissionerate raided a godown in Munaganoor village and arrested M V Siva Reddy on charges of processing and selling inferior and spurious seeds.

The samples collected from the godown were sent for examination at a lab. The results showed that Siva Reddy had been procuring returned, remnant and expired seeds at cheaper rates and processing them before packing them under the brand name Nandini Seeds.

Police seized seeds and machinery worth over Rs 27 lakh from the godown. The accused was arrested by Cyberabad police on similar charges six months ago, police said.
