Hyderabad: Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP B Suman on Thursday alleged that the Congress was making Meira Kumar a scapegoat by nominating her as the Presidential candidate in spite of knowing that she had no chance of winning.

Addressing a press conference here, Suman asked why the Congress did not announce Meira Kumar’s candidature before the NDA had announced Ramnath Kovind’s name. Stating that the TRS had special respect towards Meira Kumar, Suman said the Congress was making the senior party leader a scapegoat.

He questioned why the Congress could not arrange a special plane to Meira Kumar for visiting different states and added that it was painful that Kumar had to wait for three hours because of missing the flight. “Will there be the same approach in case of Rahul Gandhi,” asked Suman.

Suman said the TRS condemned the criticism of other parties on the support given to Kovind. “We have already made it clear why we have supported Kovind’s candidature. He is not only a Dalit but also a legal luminary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided on Kovind’s name only after suggestion from Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao,” said Suman.

He also took exception to the Congress leader’s comments that Chandrashekar Rao was afraid of CBI cases. Suman said the history of CBI cases related to the Congress. He said the non-NDA parties like BJD, JDU and AIADMK too were supporting NDA candidate like TRS. Reacting to the Congress MLA’s comment that the TRS leaders would cross vote to the Congress, Suman said all the TRS votes would be polled to Kovind.

Lashing out at TJAC chairman Prof Kodandaram, Suman said the TJAC chairman should be called ‘Kodandarang’ instead of Kodandaram. He said Kodandaram was in wrong company and with wrong persons, who were doing injustice to Telangana.
