Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has decided to install voting machines in all the public toilets and pay-and-use toilets in the city to gauge sanitation and hygiene levels. Citizens can now vote to voice their disapproval on the poor maintenance of public toilets.

Each voting machine will be purchased at an estimated cost of Rs 945 and the civic body will purchase 1,000 machines in phase one.

According a GHMC official, voting machines will be installed across the city in the next 15 days. Citizens can press the red button if the toilet conditions are very poor and unhygienic, orange for average maintenance and green if cleanliness is good.

Voting machines will be linked to the centralised system and monitored by the GHMC officials on a regular basis. The private agency will be hired to operate and maintain the machines for a period of two years.
