Prof Kodandaram says the government should take the recent incidents of drug use by school children as a lesson and take steps to curb drug menace in the State
Hyderabad: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Friday said that the latest incident of drug usage by school children should be taken as a lesson if the government does not want to witness Punjab like situation in the State.

The JAC chairman was replying to a question on drug usage in the schools during a press conference, ahead of his second phase of Amarula Spoorthi Yatra to be started on Saturday in Sircilla Rajanna district. Kodandaram said the government is using police force to monitor JAC leaders. “Instead of focusing on us, if the government had been using the police force properly, the rampant drug use in schools would not have taken place,” said Kodandaram.

Kodandaram said that holding school managements responsible was also not appropriate. The school managements should take up counselling and if they fail in this then action should be taken against the managements, he said. He further said the JAC would also take up an awareness programme on educating the students on the ill-effects of drugs.

Replying to the allegations of him being a Congress agent, Kodandaram said when they have nothing to say they simply spell the word agent. The JAC chairman alleged that the government was not taking steps to strengthen the institutions like Lokayukta.

“It is shameful that the government was not taking steps to strengthen the institutions which can keep a check on the misuse of funds. No effort is made to strengthen Lokayukta, Human Rights Commission, RTI Commissioner etc,” said Kodandaram.
The JAC chief would travel to Sircilla Rajanna district for three days starting on Saturday. He would take up road shows and participate in a public meeting on July 10.
