Spurious cotton seeds seized, six held

Gadwal: The district police of Jogulamaba Gadwal district have arrested six people involved in manufacturing spurious cotton seeds and seized 20 quintals of spurious cotton seeds stacked illegally by some traders in various parts of the district during raids.

After receiving a tip off about the illegal preprartion of spurious cotton seeds by some traders in the district, Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar formed special party teams and conducted raids at various places like Pilligundu colony in Gadwal mandal, Mundla Dinne in Rajolu mandal and seized 16 quintals and 380 kilograms of spurious cotton seeds at both the places respectively.

“We have formed special teams to nab illegal seed manufacturers in the district and in coordination with the district agriculture officers we have raided many places and seized at least 20 quintals of cotton seeds so far. We are always vigilant and will not tolerate any illegal activities,” said Vijay Kumar.

Cottong seeds are much in demand in Jogulamba Gadwal district since the land and climatic conditions are much favourable for the cultivation. Taking this as an advantage, some of the brokers and middle men have been preparing seeds illegally without taking the permission of agriculture department and involving in illegal trade activities.

The brokers are selling spurious seeds to gullible farmers and earning hug profits by doing zero business. They supply spurious seeds not only to farmers in Gadwal but also to surrounding districts in Telangana and Karnataka. “We are continuing these raids and very soon will book all those involved in this illegal trade of spurious seeds and send them to remand,” informed the SP.
