Hyderabad: A youngster died on the spot after his bike rammed into a Metro pillar near Moosapet cross roads under Kukatpally police station limits on Sunday night.

The victim was identified as Rakesh, a resident of Rehmat Nagar, who was working as a supplier of packaged drinking water. On Sunday, he borrowed his friend’s bike and while he was returning from Kukatpally, he accidentally hit the pillar number 18/A. He sustained severe head injuries and died on the spot.

According to police, the incident took place around 11:30 pm when the victim was heading home after meeting his friend in Kukatpally. Preliminary inquiry found that Rakesh was riding the bike at uncontrollable speed causing the accident. The police shifted the body to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem. Kukatpally police registered a case and began investigation.

It may note here that a study conducted by authorities found about 200 pillars as ‘accident spots’ and amongst which 50 are ‘highly accident prone’.

Despite several meetings about prevention of accidents by various departments, most of the pillars does not have signs or indications like retro-reflective stickers that will warn commuters from a possible hazard.
