The Union government has released Rs 108 crore for the construction of buildings for 61 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and two model schools for girls in the State.

​Hyderabad: The Union government has released Rs 108 crore for the construction of buildings for 61 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas and two model schools for girls in the State.

Informing this, the Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari said that persistent efforts made by his department has ultimately resulted in the release of funds. Officials said that the State government has been striving to strengthen the government schools and has been focussing on developing the KGBVs and mode schools.

According to them, out of the 475 KGBVs in the State, around 391 have good hostel buildings. With the release of funds for 61, most of the KGBVs would get better accommodation facilities.

Among a total of 194 government model schools, funds were released for the construction of buildings in 192 schools. While 132 buildings are nearing completion, construction of buildings for 30 more is still underway.

The officials said that the State government has been striving to provide basic amenities in the government schools and toilets have been constructed in all schools.

The Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants have been installed in them for providing safe drinking water. The students are provided with nutritional food through the midday meal scheme.
