Sangareddy: Malkapur Cheruvu (tank) aka Yerrakunta in the district headquarters has been collectively encroached by leaders belonging to the ruling and the opposition parties. The extent of the tank bearing Survey Nos 223 and 226 was said to be around 60 acres.

About 2,500 acres of ayacut area used to depend on the tank. But, over the course of time, several buildings and ventures have come up in place of the tank. The Revenue records and the dilapidated culvert are the evidences for the encroached tank’s site.

It is learnt that the key role in the issue is being played by leaders in the ruling party while the leaders in the opposition parties, too, came under the roof of TRS party. Municipal Chairperson’s husband, Malkapur Sarpanch and a few councilors are allegedly to be behind the encroachment of the tank.

The interesting thing is that there is no action from any of the departments concerned including the Panchayat, the Municipal, the Revenue and the Irrigation.

On the other hand, residents have to face the hardships of rain water entering their houses as the culvert is not in the proper condition. People’s associations and public appeal to the government to protect the tank from the encroachers.
