Says Manair will be developed like Thames; exhorts women to involve in Haritha Haram
Karimnagar: Launching the prestigious third phase of Haritha Haram programme at Lower Manair Dam in Karimnagar district, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday vowed to transform the town into one that resembled London city.
Addressing a public meeting after planting a ‘mahogany’ type of sapling at the Manair Dam area, Chandrashekar Rao said like the Thames River in London, Karimnagar had Manair Dam and the government was determined to develop it on par with any other city with roads and infrastructure.
Roads were being laid for better transportation and the government would spend Rs 25 crore special funds for construction of Kala Bharathi Auditorium, he declared.
The Chief Minister exhorted women, children and students to shoulder the responsibility of planting and protecting saplings as part of Haritha Haram. This would help the government transform Karimnagar town into a green-belt area, he said, adding that active involvement of the people would make the green drive a huge success.
“Our lives are tied up with wood from birth to death as we use cradle made of wood for child and finally perform final rites after death using the wood,” he pointed out. Keeping this in view, everyone should come forward and make Haritha Haram a big success, Chandrashekar Rao added.
“It is our duty to create greenery in our areas and get better quality environment,” he said, adding that giving liveable and safe environment to posterity was better than giving money and assets.
The Chief Minister also took a dig at the Opposition parties for making baseless allegations on every scheme and programme being implemented by the government. He lashed out at the Congress and other Opposition parties for coming in the way of development works and projects.
“Some useless fellows are making false and meaningless comments on the schemes,” Chandrashekar Rao alleged. To revive rural economy and giving boost to the poor, the government had launched several programmes for the welfare of rural people.
Chandrashekar Rao also said the sheep rearing scheme with 75 per cent subsidy, fishermen getting back to their profession with increasing fish production in lakes, ponds and water bodies followed by Mission Kakatiya programme were giving positive results, he said.
The Chief Minister also announced some sops to the town to be developed in two years and said while looking down from helicopter, Karimnagar should look like a green belt area.Finance Minister Eatala Rajender, Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna and others attended the green drive programme.
