Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) will now have six zones for administrative convenience. The civic body will re-organise the south and central zone to form a new zone. Officials claim that the existing five zones (North, South, East, West and Central) have 30 circles among which south and central zone have more number of circles and are larger in size. The proposal of the sixth zone was approved by the standing committee on Wednesday.
According GHMC official, the sixth zone will likely have circles including Rajendernagar (circle 6), Serilingampally (circle 12), Karwan (circle 7B), Mehdipatnam (circle 7A) and Yousufguda (circle 10 C). The re-organisation of the new zones will be in such a way that each one will have five circles. Formation of the new zones is only to provide effective administration and better facilities to the citizens.
When queried about the same, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the civic body has to create as many as 75 posts for the new zone and will spend about Rs 8 crore annually for administrative purposes.
He said the six zones will be in a uniformed manner and population will be distributed evenly. He said the existing zones are not in a uniformed manner, due to which the work load in one zone is heavy compared to other zones where there are fewer wards especially in election related work, tax collection and other administrative works.
