Misbehaviour with Collector

Mahabubabad: Though it is not uncommon for politicians to flex their muscles against the bureaucrats, sometimes it backfires as it happened in case of Mahabubabad MLA Shankar Naik whose alleged misbehaviour drew the wrath of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The development comes in the wake of an incident in which Shankar Naik touched the Collector’s hand when the chief guest Minister A Chandulal and a host of people’s representatives and officials started to disperse from the venue immediately after the launch of Phase III of Telanganaku Haritha Haram (THH) at the NTR Stadium here on Wednesday.

Shell-shocked by the incident, the Collector left the place silently to her camp office. Annoyed over the MLA’s behaviour, she reportedly lodged a complaint with Chief Secretary SP Singh and the IAS Officers’ Association.

Soon after the incident, the revenue officials staged a protest by wearing black badges and threatened to boycott the duties if the government fails to take stern action against Shankar Naik for his misconduct. “What about us, if this happens to Collector,” a woman official said, condemning the act of the MLA.

Against this backdrop, the Chief Minister, who took the issue seriously, gave a dressing down to the MLA, instructing him to meet the Collector personally and tender an unconditional apology. Further, the CM warned the MLA that he will be shown the door from the party if he fails to mend his ways.

This apart, KCR also directed Deputy CM Kadiam Srihari and Mahabubabad MP A Sitaram Naik to console the Collector, who reportedly requested the government to transfer her, on behalf of the party.

“I have a lot of respect for the Collector and she is like my sister. I might have touched her accidentally. It was totally unintentional. I look forward to work in tandem with her for the development of Mahabubabad,” Shankar Naik told the media persons after tendering his apologies to Preethi Meena in the presence of Minister A Chandu Lal and MP A Sitaram Naik.

The MP said that the MLA had apologised to the Collector with folded hands and hence the issue should be left there. He said it was unintended and unfortunate incident and everyone would take care that it does not happen again.

This in contrast to his statement earlier in the day that there was some jostling at the programme and I might have touched her inadvertently. May be the Collector wants to make an issue out of it as I requested the government for her transfer some time ago.”

Meanwhile, it is learnt that it was not all that well between the Collector and the MLA for some time. It may be noted here that there was an altercation between Manakondur MLA Rasamayi Balakishan and Karimnagar Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed over a protocol issue in Digi Jan Dhan Mela in March.
