Hyderabad: Scores of National Students Union of India (NSUI) activists undertook a 100-kilometre padayatra from Tandur to Shadnagar to assess the problems faced by government school students and hostel inmates here on Wednesday.

They have visited various government schools and hostels and took stock of the situation prevailing there. They said they found several issues including lack of toilets and proper classrooms, insufficient teachers, overcrowded hostel rooms among others.

They alleged that in government hostels, 60 members were being accommodated in a single room instead of the actual six members who were supposed to be given one room.

“They don’t have books to read and sufficient washrooms for girls. We are demanding that the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government solve the problems as soon as possible.

There are other issues including the implementation of the proposed KG-to-PG free education scheme, fee reimbursement, insufficient staff in schools and hostels among others,” they said.

NSUI State president Venkat Balmoor, NSUI State secretary Medishetti Naresh, leaders Adharsh Santosh, Ganpathi and others participated in the padayatra.
