Secunderabad: If the residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment suffered monkey menace all these years, they now have another problem to grapple with. Pigs have been roaming some of the localities. Last month, a group pig-herds used to release the pigs in Mahendra Hills close to a boys’ hostel in the morning.

Local peoplecomplained that the pigs used to eat scraps of food thrown on roadsides. The animals used to run amok scaring morning walkers and schoolgoing children.

After brief lull and relief, the pigs reappear for the last one week. Ravi, a resident, said, “There are two pig-herds groupsfrom Addagutta, who let the pigs loose in the morning. We are not letting our children go out, fearing that the pigs may harm them. Not just annoying, they are posing even a health hazard.”

The pigs (white ones) are transported to Bengaluru from Picket every Friday at night and the black pigs are sold for local consumption. Madhulika, a resident, said repeated attempts to contact Secunderabad Cantonment Board officials proved futile as none of the officials responded.
