Hyderabad: The appalling site of children begging on the streets of Hyderabad will soon come to end. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in collaboration with the police department has taken up a special drive to curb child begging under GHMC limits.

On Wednesday, around 24 child beggars were lifted from various junctions and relocated to Amma Nanna Anadha Ashramam at Choutuppal.

The children will be provided counselling, education and entertainment at the Ashramam. They will later be reintegrated with their families after a period of one month. The officials will keep a strict vigil for three months to keep the children from begging again.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said the civic body is planning to educate and council the parents about the ill effects of child begging. He said the GJMC is also planning to educate these children by admitting them in Kasturba School and Social Welfare Hostels.

Additional Commissioner, Urban Community Development Bhaskara Chary, Traffic Joint Commissioner Ravinder, DCP Limba Reddy will personally monitor the special drive.
