Hyderabad: Appointment of a minor by Wakf Board as Mutawalli (care taker) of well-known Dargahs - the Yahiya Pasha dargah at Misrigunj and Khaja Mahboob Allah, Sama Khana in Old City - triggered a controversy. The detractors have decided to knock on the doors of the court. They have said that the resolution passed by the Board on May 23 was not backed by the Wakf deed and customs.

The Board has unanimously resolved to transfer the post of Mutawallis from Moulana Syed Siddiq Hussain (present Mutawalli) to his grandson Syed Hasan Mohiuddin citing provisions under Section 42 and this has raised many eyebrows. “This section pertains to change in the management of a registered Wakf due to the death or retirement or removal of the Mutawalli. But in this case, the present Muttawali is not retired.

The post is transferred to his grandson on health grounds. The Wakf Board generally takes several months to complete process. But in the present case, it has completed the desk work; Inspector Auditor visited the institutions and collected the required material; and recorded the statements of the concerned persons within two weeks, before it was placed for the board meeting,” he added.
