Hyderabad: Prohibition and Excise Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal on Friday refused to disclose the names of film industry people to whom notices were issued in connection with the drug racket.

The department had issued notices to 12 persons, including actors, directors and technicians asking them to appear for inquiry in the drugs case between July 19 and 27.

Speaking to media persons after some names began doing rounds in the media, Akun Sabharwal refused to reveal the names either officially or unofficially. “It is unethical for me or for the SIT to reveal the names. But it is true that we have issued notices under Section 67 of the NDPS Act,” he said.

The notices were issued because the names were either found in the call records of the main accused Calvin or he had disclosed the names during interrogation.

“We are calling them to appear before the SIT at Nampally and answer questions, provide information if anything they have in connection with the racket,” the director said. He added that each film personality was given a specific date, when they had to appear before investigators.

He appealed to the media to publish facts and not to cause mental agony by creating confusion with incorrect information.
