Hyderabad: Excise and Enforcement Director Akun Sabharwal on Saturday cancelled his leave on the advice of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and postponed his travel plans in the interest of the ongoing investigation into the sensational drug case. He was to go on 10 days leave from Saturday as per the earlier plans of the official.

Soon after postponing his leave, Akun Sabharwal sent out a message to all officers stating that “In view of the importance of the drug case, I am postponing my leave till the completion of the investigation.” Stepping up the probe, he immediately held a high-level meeting with the SIT.

He also held a conference with the chief of the Narcotics Bureau of the three southern states besides that of Delhi. The meeting with the Narcotic authorities was to identify the source of drug supplies from different parts of the country and from abroad.

The SIT seemed to be now concentrating both on weeding out the source of supply and to identify the routes through which the drugs are being smuggled into the city.

Earlier, the Chief Minister spoke to the Prohibition and Excise Enforcement Director over phone and advised him to postpone his travel plans. He is learnt to have told Sabharwal to see that the case was taken to its logical conclusion.

KCR also told him that the department should take all necessary steps to root out the menace with an iron fist and not to spare any one, however big or influential they may be. The Chief Minister also advised Sabharwal to make the names of all those involved in the drug racket public.

The government would extend all necessary support, KCR is understood to have told the officer. Meanwhile, officials say depending upon the outcome of questioning of the 12 film personalities to whom they have sent the notices, the SIT would decide if they should summon more people from the film industry.
