Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Schools Parents’ Association (HSPA) on Saturday organised a campaign, ‘Not in My School’ to educate the children on the drug abuse. The HSPA took out a rally from from People’s Plaza and to Lumbini Park and returned to the venue. Dr Hrishikesh, a renowned psychiatrist at Niloufer Hospital, gave tips to the parents on how to identify possible drug abuse among the children.

Parents holding placards with slogans, such as “Get high on grades, not on drugs, Say yes to life, no to drugs, Drugs not in my school’s name, Mafia raj is not in my school’s name, Looting parents is not in my school” took out the rally.

“We fail to understand what on earth will move our government into action,” said Seema the Vice-President of HSPA. “The government should immediately stay the fee hike, at least, in those schools where profiteering has been established by HSPA investigation and then immediately issue an ordinance to set up District Fee Regulatory committees,” said Ramanjeet, Joint Secretary of HSPA.

“More than anything else, the issue of drugs has really sent a chill down the parents’ spine,” said N Subhramanyam, the President of HSPA. The programme was preceded by a huge social media campaign vide Facebook, Whatsapp and Twitter. Madhav, a parent from Manikonda, made a short 2.40 minutes film on the twin issues and sent to HSPA. The video immediately went viral and garnered more than 6,000 views in matter of hours.

“It is surprising that despite HSPA providing concrete evidence of profiteering by schools the government has still not moved to take any action against any school,” rued Venkat Sainath, Joint Secretary of HSPA.
