Hyderabad: Right environment and encouragement would take one to any height and that has been proved by M Anand, son of a poor farmer, who got selected to Harvard Summer Crossroads Programme.

A student of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Education Institutions’ Society (TSWREIS), Anand made it to the prestigious Harvard University programme, competing with 2,500 people from across the country.

Aiming to become an entrepreneur, he said he owed the credit to his teacher T Sridhar Rao and secretary of TSWREIS R S Praveen Kumar for his achievement. He said Sridhar Rao’s continuous encouragement and guidance helped him achieve participation in the world-renowned university programme.

Speaking to The Hans India, he said his parents, M Kasaiah and Ratnamma, tilled soil to eke out a livelihood at Pudur of Vikarabad district. He had joined the TSWERI in 2007 and completed Intermediate the previous year.

He joined the AV College in Hyderabad to pursue undergraduate course in Commerce. He had participated in the essay writing competition held by Harvard University on July 1. The professors of the university held an interview through Skype and selected him for the participation in the programme.

The ‘Swaeros Ten Commandments’ are a source of inspiration to him and he always aspired to be at the top to change the course of his life and also the lives of the poor communities, according to Anand.

Secretary of TSWREIS RS Praveen Kumar said Anand was spotted by the teachers of the institution and was encouraged to participate in the prestigious competition. He said it was their objective to encourage students to participate in national and international competitions to get recognition to their talents.

“Every year we select students who got talent and encourage them to take up national and international competitions. Off late, we have been focusing on international competitions,” said Praveen Kumar. Anand would participate in Harvard Summer Crossroads Programme for about 10 days. The certificates to be given to him would help him to get seat in prestigious international universities in MBA or other business education programmes.

Expressing his happiness over the selection of Anand, Praveen Kumar said, “We are leaving no stone unturned to provide ample opportunities to the needy children in our endeavour to make world class academicians.

Thanking the Chief Minister for special focus on social welfare, he said the TSWREIS was on the path of instilling a sense of self confidence among the students by exposing them to a number of activities such as Summer Samurai camps.
