Hyderabad: Calvin Mascaren, the kingpin of the new drug ring that was burst by the Prohibition and Excise Department this month, trapped and utilised the services of dozens of girls to spread his network. He began abusing cannabis while pursuing engineering. After completing his Engineering, Calvin started developing friendship with easy-going girls and made them drug addicts, sources said.

Calvin was so clever that he used to first identify individual girls from different sectors such as entertainment industry, pub going girls, software industry, schools and colleges and developed friendship with them. He was extra cautious in ensuring that those girls never meet each other. Then he made them drug addicts by offering the narcotics free of cost, sources said.

Ones the girls become addicted to drugs, he used to demand physical pleasures in return for the stuff. Then he made the girls lure people from their respective fields for drug abuse and thus steadily built a strong customer base, sources said.

This methodical modus operandi of Calvin came to light after Prohibition and Excise officials took him into custody for questioning on Saturday and Sunday. Sources said majority of the contact list on his mobile phone included girls whom he used as pawns for spreading his customer base.

The officials are now planning to call the girls and question them confidentially to ascertain the names of all customers. The officials expect to the number of drug abusers may swell after questioning the girls who were used as pawns by Calvin, sources said. Sources also said that there were some more persons from the entertainment industry apart from the 12 people to whom notices were already issued.

Besides, Calvin is learnt to have disclosed the names of two bigwigs close to all political parties and enjoy immense influence.

Meanwhile, it emerged that the 12 film personalities who have already received notices from the SIT, have begun negotiations with the officials requesting for a change of venue and date of questioning. Though the SIT officials are said to have agreed to change the date, it is learnt that they have refused to change the place of questioning.

It may be recalled the excise officials have earlier served notices Puri Jagannadh, actors Ravi Teja, Tarun, Navdeep, Subbaraju, Taneesh, Nandu, actresses Charmee, Mumaith Khan, cinematographer Shyam K Naidu, art directors Chinna and Srinivasa Raju asking them to appear before July 19 and 27. Now that the film personalities are making requests, there could be a change in the date of appearance, sources said.
