Hyderabad: The High Court at Hyderabad has stayed the written examination for recruitment of 546 women lecturer posts in Women Residential Degree Colleges in the State of Telangana scheduled to be held on July 30.

Justice M S Ramachandra Rao passed this interim order on Monday while issuing notices to TSPSC and Telangana State government to file counter affidavits.

Justice Ramachandra Rao was hearing a petition moved by S Venkata Narsimha Goud of Sadashivapet, Medak district challenging the notification issued by the TSPSC on June 2 for recruitment of 546 lecturer posts on the ground that all the posts had been reserved only for women.

The counsel for the petitioner B Ramesh contended that this was discrimination against male candidates. This cannot be done while issuing a general recruitment as it violated Article 14, 16 and 19 of the Constitution, he said. The fact that there are many male aspirants waiting since long for employment to such posts was highlighted and he sought a stay on the conduct of the examination.

The judge expressed his primary opinion that reserving 100 per cent of posts for women may not be correct and accordingly stayed the examination while calling for counter affidavits from the respondents.
