Hyderabad: The announcement of the name of Venkaiah Naidu as the NDA candidate for the post of Vice President of India has been welcomed by the TRS, BJP and TDP in the Telangana State.

According to TRS leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rang up Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and thanked him for the party’s support in voting for the Presidential candidate Kovind. Meanwhile, Nizamabad MP Kavitha tweeted from New Delhi that the TRS decided to extend its support to Venkaiah Naidu.

Telangana BJP president K Laxman hailed the decision of BJP to select Venkaiah Naidu for the post of Vice President and thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and party president Amit Shah. He told them that it was a matter of pride for Telugu speaking people. BJP leaders distributed sweets soon after the official announcement.

Laxman said that Venkaiah Naidu has vast experience as he had grown up from a normal activist to that of a party president and Union Minister. He has been a Union Minister in the earlier NDA government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee as well.

“Venkaiah Naidu has always strived for strengthening the party with discipline and honesty. When he was the AP State unit president, I was in the city BJP and I learnt many things from him. He is great orator and has the abilities to carry everyone with him,” Laxman added.

The Telangana BJP president said that Venkaiah Naidu’s victory was a forgone conclusion as all the Telugu speaking people welcomed the decision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. On most of the occasions, Venkaiah Naidu was like a trouble shooter. He was best in coordinating with other parties for the smooth functioning of Parliament, Laxman said.

The elevation of Venkaiah Naidu to the post of Vice President proves how a normal party activist is treated in the BJP. He said that the BJP leaders from the State would go to New Delhi on Tuesday and accompany Venkaiah Naidu when he files the nomination papers. His victory was a foregone conclusion, Laxman added. The pattern of voting that was witnessed in the Presidential election would be repeated again in this case as well, he added.

The TDP Telangana unit working president A Revanth Reddy also welcomed the announcement and said that it was a great honour and matter of pride for the Telugus.

However, the TPCC seems to be in a fix over the selection of the NDA candidate. When asked to comment, the TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said, “What should I say. Off the cuff-remarks are not good.

He is from Andhra Pradesh, but of course, is a Telugu person. I will react on Tuesday,” he added.
