A 30-year-old man in an intoxicated condition killed his six-month-old pregnant wife and their six-year-old daughter in Bibinagar, Hyderabad on Tuesday.

The accused, Shankar Naik set his wife and daughter on fire in an intoxicated state.

Shankar who married Saritha in 2008, is a father to two daughters - Sridevi and Srinidhya. He got addicted to alcohol after the birth of his first daughter and began harassing his wife for a son. With the birth of his second daughter, the harassment increased where Shankar beat Saritha regularly.

Unable to deal with the harassment, Saritha even complained to her in-laws on various occasions but Shankar beat up his own father severely asking him not to interfere in their matter.

In the wee hours of Tuesday, Shankar came home drunk and picked up a fight with his wife. Later, he poured kerosene on his wife and daughter and set them on fire. Hearing the screams, the in-laws and neighbours rushed in to help. They were rushed to the hospital, however, both succumbed to severe burn injuries.

The accused fled the spot after the incident and the police have registered a case against him.
