Hyderabad: The city police on Wednesday held an awareness programme on the ill effects of drunk driving and the need to follow traffic rules at Satya Sai Nigamagamam in Srinagar Colony.

Film actor Allu Arjun and Director S S Rajamouli of Bahubali fame appealed to the people to not indulge in drunk driving. Allu Arjun said traffic awareness was a subject that was close to his heart.

He said it is not that people are unaware of traffic rules but the problem in the city is that they do not follow it. Following traffic rules not only ensures the safety of the driver and his family but also others.

Rajamouli said it was unfortunate that no change was seen among people even though several lakhs of people were dying in road accidents.

He said about 1.40 lakh die in road accidents every year. When we see a brave soldier losing his life, we get emotional but even when so many people are dying in accidents, we do not ponder as to why it is happening, he said.

He called upon the people particularly, the youngsters to never indulge in bike racing and driving in inebriated condition.
City police Commissioner Mahender Reddy and other police officers participated in the programme. The police department gave an audio-visual presentation on the occasion.
