Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) official said on Wednesday that the works for drainage connections to be set up throughout the lines for diverting the excessive dripping water during heavy rains has already begun.

Rain Water Harvesting pits constructed under every HMR Station will soon be connected to the pipelines to divert the excessive rain water collected from the Metro Rail lines to the ground. This will also put an end to the ongoing water dripping issue which has been causing trouble to daily commuters, especially two-wheelers while driving adjacent to the Metro Rail lines.

Every HMRL pillar already consists of a pipe installed inside during the construction. Higher official from HMRL said pipelines will be connected to this main pipe which will help in diverting excessive rain water to the ground as well as for the irrigation purpose of the plants under the bridge.

He said rain water harvesting pits which were already constructed during the construction of the stations will also be given pipeline connections to recharge ground water levels. There is a channel on both sides of the bridge which collect water from the rains.

These channels will be provided with pipeline connections at the station as well as along the pillars to divert water to the ground avoiding direct dripping onto the road,” the official said.

These drainage connections will also come as relief to daily commuters, especially two-wheelers, who have been facing problems due to excessive water flowing directly on to the main roads during heavy rains. The pipeline connections can only be given after the tracks are completed.

``We could not provide pipeline connections until the rail tracks were laid. But now as they are done, drainage connection works have begun” the official said.
