Hyderabad: The South Central Railway Mazdoor Union (SCRMU) in coordination with VPR Pillai Memorial Trust organised a meeting and memorial lecture on FDIs, PPP and GST and their impact on Rail users.

The programme which marked the 4th death anniversary of VPR Pillai was held at the Trade Union Education and Research Centre situated in the premises of Central Office of SCRM Union at Secunderabad on Thursday.

In his keynote address, Prof K Nageshwar, former MLC said the government had done injustice to the common man by subjecting the people to a very high taxation in the name of GST. No class in the society, ranging from housewives to the farmers, is left unaffected by the GST, which is not only anti-poor, but also highly unreasonable.

The glaring feature of the GST, he said is the items consumed by the common man being taxed at higher rate, while the items consumed by affluent are kept in a lower tax bracket. Speaking on the occasion, SCRM Union general secretary Ch Sankara Rao criticised the anti-labour and anti-people policies being adopted by the government of the day.
