Hyderabad: National BC Welfare Association president and MLA R Krishnaiah on Friday urged the Chief Minister to regulate fee in the corporate and private educational institutions. He wanted the CM to make a law in this regard.

Addressing a letter to the Chief Minister, the MLA said that the corporate and private educational institutions have been indulging in daylight robbery by collecting huge amounts as donations. The committee appointed to look into fee regulation has failed to submit its report.

The MLA said that the schools have been collecting Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh for a seat in the first class. This practice of abnormal fee collection is nowhere in the country. The fee in cities like Delhi is Rs 70,000. The number of students opting private schools has risen sharply.

He said that there are 27 lakh students in 27,000 government schools whereas there are 33 lakh students in 11,000 private schools.

Due to collection of huge amounts in the name of fee, the parents are debt ridden in the State. Government should bring an ordinance to control this situation. Government should restrict the fee to Rs 20,000 for day scholars and Rs 50,000 per boarding schools, he suggested.

He said that online admission should be introduced in the colleges, fee regulatory act should be brought in, number of corporate schools should be restricted, 40,000 teacher post vacancies should be filled and English medium should be introduced in all government schools.
