Hyderabad: Driving a vehicle on the busy Hyderabad roads has become a nightmare for motorists for the past one month. Skidding of two-wheelers due to uneven roads has become a tormenting experience for motorists.

Due to the pathetic condition of roads, traffic has been moving at a snail’s pace during peak hours on all major roads. Commuters allege that the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has laid roads of not cheaper quality, but of cheapest quality.

As many as 2,000 potholes and 587 water-logging points have been identified on the city roads due to two-day rainfall. The Corporation officials claim that they have completed 90 per cent of road repairing works; but in reality, several stretches of roads are in bad condition.

Due to road cuttings and restoration works by various line departments such as Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, The Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Limited (TSSPDCL) and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL), the surfaces of roads have been damaged giving rise to bumps causing great inconveniences to road users.

The stretch from Patny Centre to Secunderabad Railway Station has been severely damaged due to the recent rainfall. Subsequently, denizens from across the city have detected that the patches of roads which were laid recently are in bad condition indicating their poor quality. Roads on several busy stretches including, Panjagutta, Begumpet, Himayathnagar, Mettuguda, Adikmet and Osmania University, Kukatpally and other areas in the city continue to remain in bad shape.

R Praveen Suri, administrative officer in a private hospital said,``The civic body has recently laid a road on busy Secunderabad-Panjagutta stretch. I cannot assess the quality of road laid which was severely damaged due to a moderate rainfall". He said travelling from the Panjagutta junction to Secunderabad has turned out to be a nightmare to him as he found several potholes and undulations.

Yousuf Pasha, a private school teacher, said that he met with an accident due to a pothole at Mastan Nagar in Jubilee Hills Road no 45. Pasha said during a rainy day he could not trace a water filled pot and slipped into it.

He said the road was laid in February and it was damaged within a month. Pasha said he had registered a complaint with the civic body, which turned a blind eye to the problem.

GHMC Commissioner B Janardhan Reddy told The Hans India the civic body would take up the road repair on war footing. He also said the GHMC has identified about 2,000 potholes and 587 water logging points in two days.
