Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has reiterated that Telangana State should become a power surplus state by completing all the proposed thermal power plants on a fast track. The Chief Minister wanted BHEL, which took the responsibility of construction of thermal power plants, should speed up its work.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting on the Thermal Power Plants in the state in New Delhi in which Energy Minister Jagdeesh Reddy, BHEL Chairman Atul Sobti, Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao, Transco ED Ajay, Government’s Chief Advisor Rajiv Sharma, Principal Secretary to CM S Narsing Rao, MPs Gutha Sukhender Reddy, Ajmera Sitaram Naik, P Srinivas Reddy and Government’s Representative S Venugopala Chary participated.

KCR instructed that the 800 MW thermal power plant being constructed in Yadadri Kothagudem district should be completed at end of the year. He also wanted 1080 MW Bhadradri Thermal Power Station (BTPS) in Manuguru should also be completed on a fast track. The CM wanted works should begin on 4000 MW Yadadri Ultra Mega Power project at Damaracharla and the project should be completed within 36 months. Since the time limit for 720 MW plant in Kothagudem expires by next year, measures should be initiated to set up 800 MW new plant there.

The Chief Minister clarified that no matter whatever may be the pressures, power projects construction works will not be given to the private parties. In this context, the CM reminded that all the power generating projects and plants are handed over to the Public sector Undertakings and this policy is implemented with commitment, dedication and to the last letter and spirit.

KCR has expressed satisfaction that the PSUs like the BHEL and Genco are living up to the expectations of the government in setting up these plants and generating power. Since the PSUs are generating the power it is ultimately good for the people and it is possible to give concessions to farmers and the poor. (INN)
