Hyderabad: The SIT feels that those who have been appearing before them for questioning have been going in for detoxification with aloe vera juice and using special shampoos to avoid traces of drugs in their samples.

Stating this during a media interaction in Secretariat on Tuesday, Director Excise and Prohibition Akun Sabharawal said the department was committed to taking the issue to its logical conclusion was trying to get special kits used for narcotics and athletic dope test from Delhi.

According to sources, those who are addicted to drugs do go in of detoxification on regular basis. There are certain centres in the city which charge a small amount and take up the process of detoxification in three sittings, the source said.

Asked if taking aloe vera could camouflage the traces of drugs, they said detoxification could erase traces from blood samples.

However, SIT officials said there are many ways to find out and the forensic experts would test the samples submitted by the SIT. They said nail and hair roots can detect traces of drugs up to three months from the date of consuming drugs.

Replying to a question about allegations that the SIT was targeting just the cinema field and that they were not questioning the major players in the industry, Akun Sabharawal said the SIT was questioning only those against whom it has evidence. He said they were strictly following the guidelines of the Supreme Court in the matter.

Besides taking into custody some Nigerians and others involved in the drugs case, the SIT, Excise and Intelligence wings have kept a tight vigil over pubs, schools, colleges and other places which are prone for drug sale and consumption. Everyday about 4 kg ganja and contraband are being recovered by the police, he said.
