Andhra Pradesh government’s decision to make Hyderabad out of bounds for patients with heart ailments causes consternation among doctors
Shocked over the AP government’s decision, cardiologists in Hyderabad on Thursday appealed to the TDP government to withdraw its decision immediately for the sake of patients.
At a press conference, Dr Sridhar Kasturi, president, Cardiology Society of India (CSI), Telangana and Dr Sarat Chandra, Senior Cardiologist, said, “Not less than 70 per cent of patients with heart ailments used to seek treatment in Hyderabad hospital before the AP government imposed ban on them.”
What is more shocking is that the Health Department in AP is encouraging the hospitals to launch an aggressive campaign to attract patients being covered under Telangana Arogyasri scheme from Telangana State, particularly from the neighbouring districts of Khammam and Nalgonda.
This reflects dichotomy in the AP government’s approach,” the doctors said. The AP government should reconsider its decision on humanitarian grounds and in the best interest of the patients, they pointed out.
The decision of the AP government not to allow the cardiac patients being covered under NTR Arogyasri scheme to secure treatment in Hyderabad hospitals is shrouded in mystery, it is felt.
