A 20-member delegation of women activists from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Thursday visited the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a part of study tour to know the various activities which are being taken up by the civic authorities.

​Hyderabad: A 20-member delegation of women activists from Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka on Thursday visited the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as a part of study tour to know the various activities which are being taken up by the civic authorities.

Bhaskara Chary, Additional Commissioner (UCD), welcomed the delegates and briefed them about various developmental activities in the GHMC including bank linkages to Self Help Groups, Aasara, Senior Citizen activities, Swachh Resource Persons, Street Vendor Policy, Mahila Arogya Samithi and functioning of the council and explained about powers of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and functioning of the corporators and so on.

On behalf of the delegates, some of them requested the GHMC officials to extend help to transgender community in the same way they were helping senior citizens, physically challenged, the poor and the needy people, duly providing with night shelters. Responding to their request, the GHMC officials requested the delegates to approach the State government so that they could act as per the directions and guidelines of the government.
