Hyderabad: All the buses in the country will have uniform bus bodies thanks to the new AIS-052 bus body code issued by Central Surface Transport Ministry (CSTM), which gives importance to security features and also provide comfortable ride to the passengers.

This was stated at a workshop organised by Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) on Friday, which was attended by officials of APSRTC, Odisha Transport Corporation and Goa Transport Corporation besides private bus body makers.

The workshop was to familiarise about the new bus body code being introduced by the Centre. Bus passengers can soon have wider seats, ample space between seats, low steps and much more to ensure a hassle-free journey.

As of now, there are no norms with which we can demand bus builders and operators to change their designs that result in cramped journey, extreme heat, intolerable vibration, noise and poor safety standards. Even the poor material used to build buses aggravates the impact of accidents at times.

The code would be coming into effect from October 1. Most of the delegates expressed that it would be beneficial to have uniformity in the bus body. Central Institute of Road Transport Manager Prashant Kakade, scientists - S H Ali and S N Dole - also attended the workshop and clarified the doubts raised by the delegates.

TSRTC MD G V Ramana Rao, Executive Director M Ravinder, Board Secretary Venu and others also participated.
