Hyderabad: Even after four days of issuing notification to fill 169 contract-based posts in Fisheries Department, there do not seem to be many applicants. During the last four days, the number of applications could not cross single digit number.

The notification was issued on July 26 inviting applications from eligible candidates for posts on ‘contract basis’ for a period of one year. The 31 posts are for Fisheries Field Officers, with monthly honorarium of Rs 25,000. While 79 posts are for Fisheries Assistants with monthly honorarium of Rs 18,000 and another 79 posts are for Fishermen with monthly honorarium of Rs 12,000. The applications are to be submitted at the office of Commissioner of Fisheries.

However, by Saturday the applications did not even cross the single digit mark. The officials had expected huge response from the youth, but only four applications were received at the counter opened particularly for this purpose, said official. It may be mentioned here that the State government which has embarked on bringing in ‘Blue Revolution’ through distribution of 70 crore fish seedlings this year has decided to fill the vacancies created through ‘contract posts’.

The officials have already expressed apprehensions of handling a huge amount of Rs 1,000 crore planned to be utilised during the two financial years 2017-18 and 2018-19 as part of developing the fisheries. This is not the first time that such a situation had arisen. In the beginning of the year, when the Animal Husbandry Department had entered into an agreement with GVK for Mobile Veterinary Clinics, none of the Veterinary Doctors had come forward to join.

None of the Veterinary Doctors had turned up to sign the bond for the services which were planned to be launched across 100 constituencies, with a project estimate of Rs 20 crore. “If this generation is not ready to accept the changing realities, then they would be losing opportunities on both sides,” said a higher official of Animal Husbandry.
