March 2018 deadline for commissioning of pump sets

​Hyderabad: The State government has set March 2018 as the deadline for commissioning pump sets at Sundilla, Annaram and Medigadda lift irrigation projects under the prestigious Kaleshwaram Scheme. Pump set manufacturers from seven countries on Monday attended a high-level meeting conducted by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao here and discussed the progress and hurdles if any, in the supply of pump sets and the completion of works on schedule.

The Minister instructed the private agency to ensure that the sophisticated pump sets are imported before March and start its operations by June next year. He questioned the pump set company managements from Austria, Switzerland, China, America, Britain, Brazil and Germany about the time required for the supply of electro mechanical equipment and the reasons for any delay in the next eight months. Harish asked the managements and the contractor to update him about the progress in the completion of civil works at the project sites as well as pump set works from time to time.

The irrigation officials informed the Minister that the Energy department had been requested to lay electric lines and establish transformers at the three lift projects before the setup of the pump sets. The Minister instructed the officials to prepare an action plan for the speedy completion of all works.

Harish said the Kaleswaram project would also meet the drinking water needs in Hyderabad. Besides, the project would be integrated with Mission Bhagiratha for the supply of potable drinking water to other parts of the State by December next year. Special Chief Secretary to Irrigation S K Joshi, Minister’s OSD Sridhar Rao Deshpande and others were also present in the meeting.
