Hyderabad: Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, who had started the campaign called ‘Sisters 4 Change’ urging sisters to gift their brothers a helmet along with ‘Rakhi’ on Rakshabandhan, is getting support from a cross section of people. Apart from the support of the political parties cutting across the party lines, the TRS MP was getting support from the sports personalities. The social media had overwhelmingly supported the cause initiated by Kavitha.

Sports personalities including badminton stars Saina Nehwal and Gutta Jwala, and Indian women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj have pledged their support to the cause. Similarly, the political parties too have supported the cause by appreciating the efforts of Kavitha. Assam MP Gaurav Gogoi, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Schindia and BJP MP Ramesh Pokhriyal have appreciated Kavitha for the initiative.

The TRS MP had started an online campaign on social media. “Anguished by the number of 2-wheeler accidents, I would like to make a serious effort 2 save some lives. Join me #Sisters4Change and #GiftAHelmet,” said Kavitha in her twitter handle @RaoKavitha.

Students of Avinash College in Kukatpally on Wednesday took up a unique rally ‘Sisters4Change’ and displayed placards showing the importance of wearing helmet. The placards had messages such as ‘use helmet’, ‘helmets can save our lives in case of accidents’, ‘fasten seat belts’ while driving a four-wheeler etc. The students applied mask with photo of Kavitha. The girl students pledged to gift a helmet to their brothers while tying Rakhi.

She said that because of non-use of helmet, on an average 400 persons were getting killed every day in the country. “Sisters bless their brothers for their long life while tying Rakhi and get gifts. This time the sisters should gift helmet for ensuring their security,” said Kavitha. She said that the campaign would be continued till Rakshabandhan day.
