Sircilla: Even as the sparks of Jillella incident that drew protests against the state government are refusing to die down, yet another sand-laden truck on Wednesday claimed one more life.

It may be noted here that irate locals set four sand lorries on fire after one of them mowed down B Bhumaiah of Jillella village on July 2. Following which, the police booked cases against them.

Against this backdrop, the Opposition parties especially the Congress has been raising a hue and cry over the issue, accusing the police of foisting false cases against the dalits besides torturing them.

On Wednesday, Bakka Shankaraiah of Gannevaripalle village under Mustabad mandal was hit by a sand-laden lorry at Pothugal village. He died while undergoing treatment in Hyderabad.

Former MP Ponnam Prabhakar, in a statement, has demanded the government to stall the sand transportation to other places with immediate effect.

The government should only allow sand quarrying for local needs. He also demanded the government an ex gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the kin of the deceased.
