South Central Railway collects Rupees 1.38 lakh penalty from vendors

South Central Railway (SCR) has undertaken special drives against unauthorised hawking. During the drives, an amount of Rs 2.41 lakh was collected as penalty from unauthorised hawkers. As part of the drive, a surprise check was conducted at the Secunderabad Railway Station on Tuesday. Officers from commercial and security branch of Hyderabad Division took part in the surprise check.

Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) has undertaken special drives against unauthorised hawking. During the drives, an amount of Rs 2.41 lakh was collected as penalty from unauthorised hawkers. As part of the drive, a surprise check was conducted at the Secunderabad Railway Station on Tuesday. Officers from commercial and security branch of Hyderabad Division took part in the surprise check.

During the drive, Satavahana Express, Falaknuma Express, Visakha Express and Godavari Express trains were checked on platform and a total of 92 unauthorised hawkers/vendors selling food items at the station were apprehended and produced before the Special Judicial Magistrate for Railways. An amount of Rs 1,38,000 was imposed as fine on unauthorised vendors.

B D Christopher, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, K Senthil, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner, 16 ticket checking staff, 10 commercial inspectors and 10 RPF staff of Hyderabad Division participated in the surprise check.

Earlier, 23 surprise checks were conducted during the last seven days on catering units in Hyderabad Division by Divisional Railway Manager, Chief Medical Superintendent and other officials. A fine of Rs 1.03 lakhs was imposed on various lapses. The drives are intended to improve the quality of catering services rendered to passengers in the division, according to an official release issued here on Wednesday.
