Hyderabad: With the visit of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) around the corner, colleges affiliated to Osmania University are preparing to meet the norms required to secure the accreditation this year.

The NAAC gives accreditation to universities and higher educational institutions after examining various aspects. The NAAC accreditation plays a key role in the development of the University as the funds to be given by University Grants Commission and other national funding agencies depend on them.

The accreditation also adds value to the certificates being given by the university and its affiliate institutions, both in the country and abroad. The university, which had star rating in the past, has lost the recognition due to the official apathy.

Osmania University has submitted the self-study report to the NAAC in February this year. The NAAC has examined the report and decided to visit the university to examine the facilities being provided in the university and affiliated colleges.

The NAAC officials would examine the academic and infrastructural facilities being provided by the university. They take various aspects like buildings, furniture, hostels, faculty, research facilities and several other factors into consideration.

In the wake of the visit of NAAC officials, university vice chancellor Prof S Ramachandram has written a letter to the officials of the colleges and urged them to be prepared for the inspections.

He said, “Osmania University, celebrating the centenary, stands on the threshold of being evaluated by the NAAC very shortly and I wish to take this opportunity to reiterate the rigorous methodology of NAAC and appeal to all of you to prepare and showcase the strengths of the departments, centres, colleges etc.”
